You can make a difference in your workplace, whether you are a senior leader, a mid-level manager or a front line employee if you contribute from your authentic voice and not your ego. The ego seeks validation and support and will often compromise to be part of the crowd. We see this when large corporations collapse or implode and many people failed to speak up when they saw things that were wrong.
Truly understanding your own ego and its needs can be the release needed for you to gain your full power. Behind the ego is powerlessness. The hold it has on us is from weakness not strength. If we really knew, we would let go of all the strategies and cover-ups faster than a hot potato. We would put our guns down and surrender to the greater self, our true essence, our inner most strength. Relying on the ego is a bit like a drowning person holding onto a rope to save them, only to discover it is not connected to anything and cannot rescue them.
Instead of fighting others, we need to confront our own ego. When you face up to your ego’s fears, you will discover peace where you anticipated pain. You will start to see the ego is an actor with no authority, merely a substitute sent in by you to represent you in the world. When you rely on your inner spirit and your connection to universal love–the power that sustains all life–you will find your authentic voice. You will be a voice of strength, love and compassion, both in the workplace and the world.
